VOLCANIC ACTION, AND HOW WE GOT HOME

DAY ONE.

We just knew that planes would be grounded for ages so we jumped a train from Milan to Geneva. The man in the window was at the helm of a family that had managed to hire a car at Geneva to drive to Calais ( Oh, the French were busy having a rail strike ). We had no idea what we would do once we got to Geneva, so we made the most of the scenic journey through the lakes.
If you do one thing before you die...Take this train !

Luckily we had an i phone, and the occasional access to the BBC news website. Jesus, what a mess things were getting in to... would we ever get home ?

Just as night fell we got in to Geneva, during the trip our "eye in the sky" in the UK, managed to grab us a hotel. Massive thanks to Alison xxx.

The view from the hotel window overlooking Lake Geneva was, considering the circumstances, rather acceptable.

DAY TWO.

We managed to arrange a taxi to Lyon, so we waved goodbye to sunny Lake Geneva.

From Lyon to Paris by train, then a quick cab across town, and we were amazingly on the Eurostar.

Yes, it sounds easy but it wasn't. At every turn, we met dead end's and confusion. Now that's all in the past, most of what remains is the memory of a very fantastic journey.
The moral of this story ?

Take immediate action, and follow your actions through.

  1. I was there, too. It was FUN. That's what people forget. Travel can be fun. Oh, and beautiful. Very beautiful.
